Finite Carbon Appoints Carrie Gombos and Brandon Vickery Co-Chief Executive Officers

Wayne, Penn., January 10, 2024 — Finite Carbon, North America’s leading developer and supplier of forest carbon offsets, today announced it has named Carrie Gombos and Brandon Vickery as Co-Chief Executive Officers. Simultaneously, both have been added to Finite’s Board of Directors, with Gombos serving as a Director and Vickery joining as an Observer.

Combined, they bring decades of carbon industry experience across operations and forestry to their new roles. The move positions Finite Carbon for continued growth as the company brings new solutions to market, building upon its role as an industry leader and trusted partner for landowners and buyers of carbon credits.

As co-CEOs Gombos and Vickery succeed Sean Carney, who founded Finite Carbon in 2009. Carney will continue to serve in an advisory capacity, while remaining a member of the Board of Directors and retaining his ownership stake in the company. During Carney’s tenure as CEO, Finite Carbon has played a leading role in the industry, developing multiple methodologies, and making significant technological innovations that have helped advance forest carbon markets.

Following a strong 2023, the company heads into the new year with significant momentum. In August, Finite announced a collaboration to unlock enrollment in voluntary carbon offset programs for non-industrial landowners across 13 Southeastern states via its Core Carbon® platform. The company also successfully expanded its position in the voluntary carbon market with large landowners, with over two million voluntary offsets issued last year and signed its first voluntary project in Canada. To date, Finite has generated 100 million forest carbon offset credits in the compliance and voluntary markets for clients across four million forested acres in North America.

The new leadership structure will allow Carrie and Brandon to leverage their unique strengths while ensuring a seamless transition and continued focus on the company’s key values and strategic goals. As co-CEO, Gombos will maintain oversight of the company’s Legal Team and oversee People Operations and the Core Carbon® business line. Meanwhile, Vickery will continue his leadership of the Development Team and oversee the company’s Commercial and Finance business units.

Gombos has been with Finite Carbon since 2016, most recently serving as Senior Vice President for Legal and Operations, where she has overseen all contracting, legal and compliance requirements, and operations for Finite’s compliance and voluntary carbon project portfolios. She has led collaboration with senior leadership on risk management and strategy during a period of extensive growth.

Vickery has been with Finite Carbon since 2015 and enters his new role from his previous position as Senior Vice President for Project Development. Brandon began his career at Finite in an analytical role, developing deep expertise in the fundamentals of forest carbon offset project development, then managed the company’s Development Team to deploy the necessary resources in support of Finite Carbon’s Forest Carbon Offset Project Development portfolios, for both the compliance and voluntary markets.

“Since its inception, Finite Carbon has been focused on bringing about trusted natural capital solutions and providing opportunities for environmental stewardship through the development of best practices while driving innovation in carbon markets,” said Gombos. “I’ve been fortunate for the years spent working alongside Sean as the company has grown and celebrated milestones. I’m excited for the opportunity to partner with Brandon to capitalize on the momentum we’ve built to help lead the company into the future.”

“I am honored by the opportunity to serve as a steward of Finite’s reputation as the most trusted name in forest carbon,” said Vickery. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside landowners, buyers and our commercial partners to spearhead innovative solutions which deliver real, measurable carbon reductions and other benefits to ecosystems and communities.”

Prior to Finite Carbon, Gombos spent nearly a decade at The Conservation Fund as Director of Carbon Compliance, where she worked on all aspects of The Conservation Fund’s carbon portfolio including the California compliance offset program and the Fund’s voluntary carbon program, Go Zero. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.

Vickery has more than 20 years of experience of forestry management in the conservation, investment, modeling, and analytics spaces. He previously worked with Mason, Bruce and Girard providing analytical support for forest management planning projects, harvest scheduling, timberland valuations, inventory, and appraisal analysis. Vickery graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
