TIMOs are well positioned to benefit from today’s carbon opportunities. Finite Carbon’s forestry team has evaluated over 2 million acres of investment grade forest properties throughout the US and Western Hemisphere for carbon feasibility and integrated timber and carbon projects. We regularly advise industrial forest landowners on how to identify, integrate and optimize forest carbon projects in managed forest systems. In addition, our team has significant experience implementing forest certification standards and designing working forest conservation easements and understands how these tools interact with and can support the monetization of forest carbon.

How it works

Finite Carbon’s team of foresters and carbon finance experts works with TIMOs to identify opportunities to generate carbon revenue from fee-simple forests, as well as from properties being considered for purchase. We can evaluate individual parcels or groups of parcels to determine what configuration of properties is best suited to a carbon project, the number of offsets that may be generated annually, and the current market value of the carbon offset stream.

If a project is deemed to be financially feasible, Finite Carbon covers all the costs to have a project developed and approved and, in conjunction with the TIMO, determines when and how to sell offsets.  To provide an estimate of carbon offset delivery, we use the current forest management and harvest plan and most recent inventory data for the subject property. The Finite Carbon forestry team will convert the existing inventory data into a carbon estimate and provide the TIMO with a written proposal.

What Finite Carbon Does for You

Finite Carbon is responsible for each step in the process that leads to carbon revenues. Using our in-house industry experts, we perform the following steps:

  • Conduct a feasibility study of the forest
  • Complete a carbon inventory of the forest
  • Select appropriate registry/protocol (e.g., ARB, CAR, ACR, or VCS)
  • Translate inventory into carbon model and management plan
  • Prepare and submit project plan to chosen carbon registry
  • Hire third-party project verifier once plan is accepted and registered
  • Submit project verification to registry and receive allocation of carbon offsets
  • Market & sell carbon offsets in our proprietary network or engage top brokers to broaden sales process
