Sean Carney manages Finite’s portfolio and OTC transactions in addition to overseeing Finite’s overall operations. He was a broker at CantorCO2e where he worked with clients to facilitate structured carbon offset transactions from forestry, livestock management, landfill gas, and renewable energy projects.

Prior to CantorCO2e, Sean was one of the first employees of Carbonfund.org, where he worked with Dell, Volkswagen, and Orbitz to develop and manage their carbon neutral programs. Sean is one of the offset industry’s most seasoned transaction specialists.

Sean holds a B.S. Business and Environmental Studies from the University of Southern California.

Steve Baczko is Finite Carbon’s Head of Business Development. He brings 20+ years of management, strategic consulting and business development experience working in carbon markets, natural climate solutions, renewable energy, climate policy and emerging markets. He currently serves as Head of Business Development, where he directs new market and program development, commercial engagements and strategic partnerships for compliance and voluntary markets.

Prior to joining Finite, Steve was Managing Director for NatureBank, an international forest carbon project developer and technical advisory firm specializing in nature-based solutions. He started his career in the carbon markets as Head of New Markets and Senior Manager of Global Consulting services for EcoSecurities/JP Morgan, the largest developer of emission reduction projects for the global carbon markets. He also has worked at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private investment branch of the World Bank where he helped launch the Grassroots Business Initiative, a pioneering impact investment fund.

Before joining the IFC, Steve lived in Vietnam where he worked in natural fiber manufacturing and supply chain development, principally for IKEA.

Steve holds a B.A. from Georgetown University and serves as a Director to BioSolutions, the Advisory Board for One Energy and is the former founding Director of Oregon Business for Climate.

Daniel Crawford is Finite Carbon’s Director of Acquisitions and works collaboratively with other members of the Origination Team in sourcing and evaluating forestland assets for compelling investment opportunities. Daniel has a Bachelor’s of Forestry from Auburn University, he is a Registered Forester in Alabama, and is a member of the Society of American Foresters.

Before joining Finite Carbon, Daniel was an employee-owner of Resource Management Service (RMS) supporting a variety of client-facing investment management and business development functions. During his tenure in these roles, Daniel managed a multi-national timberland fund with assets in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Brazil, and he contributed to $1+ billion in new capital raised for investment into the asset class. Prior to these investment focused roles, Daniel served as a forest analyst for RMS and Hancock Timber Resource Group working to improve the efficiency and efficacy of silvicultural prescriptions and applications across millions of acres of private forestland investments. Daniel began his career as a timberland appraiser for James W. Sewall Company where he worked with large institutional investors and managers on annual valuation updates for timberland assets in the continental US, Brazil, and Uruguay.

As a husband and father of three awesome kids, Daniel spends most of his free time trying to keep up with the exciting, yet chaotic life of raising kids and making great memories as a family.

Trevor Cutsinger is Finite Carbon’s Senior Commercial Director. In this role, he oversees Finite’s carbon project origination work in the U.S. and Canada. He specializes in helping large landowner clients design carbon projects that fit into their ownership and investment objectives.

Prior to joining Finite in 2019, Trevor worked for The Conservation Fund where he held multiple roles in helping acquire, manage, and protect over 600,000 acres across 16 states. He is a graduate of Duke University and Furman University and is a forest owner in his home state of South Carolina. He has served on the board of directors of the Pabst-Steinmetz Foundation since 2018.

Outside of work, Trevor is spending time with his wife and three sons, on his family’s tree farm, or on the golf course.

Daniel de Souza is the Reforestation Operations Manager. He is responsible of analyzing the carbon potential, designing, and overseeing the field operations (site prepare, tree planting, silvicultural prescriptions) of afforestation and reforestation carbon projects.

Before his current role, Daniel acted as a Forest Carbon Analyst at Finite Carbon, coordinating Improved Forest Management projects. He has worked in Venezuela, Guatemala, and the Southeast and Northeast regions of the U.S. overseeing the establishment, management, inventory, and silvicultural research of planted forests and bioenergy woody crops (eucalypt, shrub-willow, poplar, and paulownia).

Daniel was born in Brazil and raised in Venezuela. He holds a B.S. in Forestry from Universidad de Los Andes, as M.S. degree in Forestry from Auburn University and a Ph.D. in Forest Management from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Daniel spends his time playing with his 3 wild sons and patient wife, grilling, running, and watching soccer and college football.

Eric Downing is Finite Carbon’s Vice President of Project Development. He is part of the team responsible for project feasibility analysis, modeling, and development. With extensive experience using FVS and ARC-GIS, Eric worked in operations and management on Duke’s FSC-certified School Forest and assisted in the execution of timber sales and design and implementation of Duke’s continuous forest inventory system. Eric was a Soil Research Technician with the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station.

Eric holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Vassar College and a M.F. and M.E.M. from the Duke Nicholas School of the Environment.

Whitney Flanagan is Finite Carbon’s Director of Marketing. She specializes in translating strategic business goals into effective marketing solutions, brand development, and communications. As a creative director, marketer, writer, and filmmaker, she’s motivated by a desire to demonstrate impact and uplift stories about world issues.

Whitney most recently directed Global Corporate Marketing at Climate Impact Partners, an international voluntary carbon offset provider, where she led the newly merged company’s branding and messaging efforts. Prior to that she directed Marketing and Communications at The Conservation Fund. Whitney holds a B.F.A. from East Tennessee State University where she graduated with honors.

Outside of work, you can find Whitney trail running, singing and playing guitar and searching for the next best vegetarian meal.

Jordan Golinkoff is Finite Carbon’s Senior Director of Research and Development. Based in Oakland, CA, Jordan leads the science and engineering effort to develop large scale estimates of carbon stored in forests driven by remote sensing data. Prior to joining Finite, Jordan worked as a data scientist focused on quality at both SiriusXM/Pandora and Apple.

Before entering the tech world, Jordan worked for 10 years developing forest carbon offset projects with the Conservation Fund. Jordan has experience developing data visualizations and models at scale. Jordan’s PhD in forestry from the University of Montana focused on developing wall-to-wall estimates of carbon stocks by leveraging high resolution imagery, LiDAR and inventory plot data. He holds a B.A. Computer Science, Yale University, a M.F. Nicholas School, Duke University, and a Ph.D. Forestry, University of Montana.

Outside of work, Jordan is likely spending time with his three young kids, on the tennis court, or doing a project in the garden.

Carrie Gombos is Finite Carbon’s Senior Vice President for Legal and Operations. In this role, she oversees all contracting, legal and compliance requirements, and operations for Finite’s compliance and voluntary carbon project portfolios. She also collaborates with senior leadership on risk management, legal strategy, and development of company policies.

Prior to joining Finite Carbon in 2016, Carrie worked for eight years at The Conservation Fund, where she was the Director of Carbon Compliance and worked on all aspects of The Conservation Fund’s carbon portfolio including the California compliance offset program and the Fund’s voluntary carbon program, Go Zero. She is a graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School.

When she’s not working, you can find Carrie hiking with her family, including her two sons and golden retriever, or immersed in a good novel.

Caitlin Guthrie is Finite’s Director of Forest Carbon Origination. She brings over a decade of experience in assisting landowners to successfully monetize nature-based solutions. Since 2020, Caitlin has worked directly with large forest owners across the U.S. to evaluate and develop custom forest carbon projects. Caitlin guides the design and implementation of strategic carbon initiatives that have unlocked substantial value for Finite’s clients, while also meeting ESG objectives and tackling climate change.

Prior to joining Finite Carbon, Caitlin served as Associate Director of Conservation Loans at The Conservation Fund, where she provided financing and technical assistance to private partners for land and conservation easement acquisitions. Earlier in her career, Caitlin held a variety of roles leading forestland restoration, stewardship and conservation acquisitions. She has a Master’s of Science from the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington and is a graduate of Pomona College.

In her free time, you can find Caitlin deepening her connection to place in southern Oregon and northern California through mountain biking, backpacking and cross country skiing.

Jacob Handel is Finite Carbon’s Director of Forest Carbon Origination in Canada. He brings over two decades of experience working in Indigenous relations and knowledge and involvement engaging with Indigenous people in resource industries throughout North America. Jacob has supported and guided strategic direction in the environmental field, and led Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, strategy development, regulatory processes, and negotiation. This includes working for a leading Canadian paper and forest products manufacturing company, governments, and industry in the resources and energy sector and nonprofits.

Jacob supports and guides the design and implementation of strategic carbon initiatives that unlock value for Finite’s clients, while also meeting Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) objectives and tackling climate change.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Sciences from the University of Alberta, Edmonton.

Nate Hanzelka is Finite Carbon’s Associate Director on the Project Development Team. He is responsible for managing the design and modeling of our voluntary project portfolio, leveraging his extensive knowledge of applied forestry and advanced skills in Remsoft and FVS. Nate also works closely with our sales team to assess prospective projects and provide analytical support.

Nate comes from a timberland investment background, working for Hancock (Manulife) Forest Management before joining Finite. In this role, he performed harvest scheduling on 2+ million acres of forestland, developed cashflow reports, and formulated strategic and tactical management plans. He carries a bachelor’s from UW – Stevens Point and a master’s from Virginia Tech.

Nate spends his free time fixing his house, riding his mountain bike, and exploring the PNW with his 12-year-old lab, Laika.

Dylan Jenkins is Finite Carbon’s Vice President of Portfolio Development. He leads U.S. project origination and client relations and has over twenty-five years of experience working with private forest landowners toward the protection and sustainable management of working forestlands.

Dylan joined Finite from The Nature Conservancy where he developed market-based strategies integrating land protection, certified forest management, and forest carbon markets and started his career as an extension forester at Virginia Tech. He was SAF’s National Young Forester of the Year, served on the SAF National Committee on Forest Policy, and chaired SAF’s Certification Review Board. At home he enjoys outdoor projects and mountain biking the Appalachians with his wife and kids.

Dylan holds a B.S. Forest Resource Management from Clemson and a M.S. in Forest Management and Economics from Virginia Tech.

Dylan Murray is Finite Carbon’s Director of Global Reforestation Projects, bringing a decade of experience working on natural climate solutions to the company. He leads the company’s efforts to execute its afforestation/reforestation strategy and develop our early projects in the space.

Prior to joining Finite Carbon in 2021, he worked on conservation and carbon markets at the Nature Conservancy. He holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary and an MBA from Yale University. Born in Maryland, he now lives in Charleston, South Carolina.

Outside of work, you can find Dylan and his springer spaniel out on South Carolina’s national park trails.

Mark Norek is Finite Carbon’s, Chief Financial Officer. He brings more than 30 years of senior financial experience and is responsible for overseeing our financial operations. He was formerly CFO at Skill Survey, Inc., where he served for 10 years. While there, he strengthened the controls and reporting during the rapid market and revenue growth into profitability. Prior to Skill Survey, Inc., Mark was the Finance Director for Constantia Colmar, where he helped improve operational areas.

Mark held roles as Senior Director of International Accounting Operations at Amkor Technology, Inc. and Director of International Accounting at BetzDearborn where he was involved in the accounting integration of acquisitions and reporting. Before BetzDearborn, Mark was a senior manager for E&Y where he served for ten years.

Liz Pascale is Finite Carbon’s Business Operations Manager. She manages the development and administration of our customer data and carbon project management systems, as well as QA/QC and reporting. She works interdepartmentally to guide the integration of our internal systems infrastructure.

Liz has an interdisciplinary background that includes land management, field research, and marketing & sales. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts and an M.S. in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology from Antioch University New England in Keene, New Hampshire. Now she specializes in systems administration and integration, project management, and interdepartmental collaboration.

In her free time, you can often find her out for a hike, exploring local neighborhoods and events, or trying out new creative pursuits.

Stephen Purvis is Finite Carbon’s Associate Director of Project Development. Before joining Finite, Stephen worked with Weyerhaeuser conducting biomass and silvicultural research, timber market analysis, and market feasibility. In Weyerhaeuser’s southeast forest operations group, he managed the regional harvesting program including harvest scheduling and made significant contributions in harvest scheduling methodology. He is a certified professional logging manager with advanced analytic experience using Remsoft, SAS, and ArcMap. Stephen holds a B.S. and M.S. in Forestry from the University of Georgia.

Outside of work you can Stephen out boating in the Gulf of Mexico, hiking, or maintaining his collection of classic cars.

Maria Salvemini is Finite Carbon’s Counsel. As a member of Finite’s legal team, Maria works on contracting, advises on legal issues and risks, and supports the commercial and sales teams on deal structures and contract negotiations.

Before joining Finite Carbon, Maria was an attorney at a boutique environmental and energy law firm in the Philadelphia area where she handled litigation and regulatory matters. Maria earned her law degree from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Prior to law school, Maria received a bachelor’s of Arts degree in English and Political Science, with a minor in Environmental Studies, from Villanova University.

Maria lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia with her husband and wheaten terrier. Outside of work, Maria enjoys cooking and reading.

Brian Sharer is Finite Carbon’s Director of Forest Analytics. In this capacity, Brian leads the quantification and modeling efforts across Finite Carbon’s business lines for carbon projects throughout the U.S. and abroad.

He has over 25 years of experience in forest modeling, inventory, and investment analysis. Prior to joining Finite, Brian was portfolio manager for $500 million of U.S. timberlands assets at GreenWood Resources where he also led inventory and modeling efforts for existing investments and acquisition targets both domestically and internationally. He has extensive analytical experience with REITs and TIMOs, industrial, government, and non-profit landowners leading planning efforts, asset valuations, systems analysis, and forestry software development. Brian serves on the Forest Biometrics Research Institute Board of Directors.

Brian holds an M.S. in Forest Resource Management from Oregon State University, an MBA from the University of Portland, and a B.A. in Biology from Colgate University.

During his free time, when nothing needs to be fixed around the house, Brian enjoys hiking, fishing, playing guitar, choral music, and travelling to new places with his family.

Matt Smith is Finite Carbon’s Vice President of Forest Operations. He is responsible for leading Finite’s forest carbon inventory program, site verification program, safety program, and the management of Finite’s forestry contractor relationships. Matt joined Finite Carbon in early 2009 and has been involved with nearly all of Finites 60+ projects since that time. While serving at Finite Carbon Matt also developed rigorous safety policies, procedures, and systems much of which has inspired industry standards for practice.

Matt came to Finite Carbon after a 27 years in forestry consulting in the U.S. Matt is a Society of American Foresters Certified Forester and long-time member of the Association of Consulting Foresters. He holds a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry where he also has served as an Adjunct professor for over 15 years.

When Matt isn’t busy working on forest carbon projects he can usually be found spending time with his family, working or playing on his family farm, or bobbing around in a boat on Lake Erie.

David Stevenson is Finite Carbon’s Director of Canadian Operations. He has been a professional forester in Canada for over 20 years and has worked with industry, consultants, and government. David joined Finite from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment where he led climate and offset policy development. While with the Saskatchewan Forest Service David led forest policy development, forest management planning, and forest renewal. David is a past President of the Saskatchewan Association of Forestry Professionals and is an active participant with the Canadian Institute of Forestry and the Society of American Foresters.

Dave holds an Honours bachelor’s of Science in Forestry and master’s of Science in Forestry from Lakehead University, Ontario Canada.

Outside of the office David is an avid gardener who cans his bounty. He also supports his daughter’s soccer dreams, and is known to bore people with a little too much information on wood decay fungi.

Adam Trenholm leads Finite’s geospatial analysis work. Before Finite, Adam worked throughout New England as a forest stewardship technician for the New England Forestry Foundation (a Finite client), in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming as a forester for Spearfish Forest Products, and as a staff forester for LandVest Timberlands in New Hampshire and Vermont. While working on his undergraduate degree, Adam spent two summers working for the USDA Forest Service as a Forestry Technician in Big Piney, Wyoming and Wrangell, Alaska. Adam holds a B.S. in Forestry, from the University of Massachusetts.

When Adam isn’t on the clock you can either find him outside with his family or inside with a good book.

Jazmín Varela is Finite Carbon’s Director of Landowner Relations. She oversees the operations team for the CORE Carbon digital platform. She works closely with our various teams that are collectively responsible for delivering and scaling up of our digital platform for natural climate solutions.

Before joining Finite Carbon, Jazmín served as Assistant Director of Integrative Services at The Conservation Fund, where she led project development across various teams working to provide communities access to conservation tools. Her role also included lead designer and delivery of Green Infrastructure Plans across the country. She received a master’s of Environmental Management from Duke University and bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University. Jazmín lives in North Carolina with her daughter and spends her free time riding bikes, running, gardening, and walking her dog.

Dan Van Ostenbridge is Finite Carbon’s Director of Digital Platforms. He is based in our Philadelphia headquarters and has been doing technology implementation and IT management for more than 35 years. He oversees the design, development, and operation of technology platforms that support carbon offset projects. His previous experience includes positions with Accenture, Comcast, TV Guide and United BioSource. He has also held numerous IT strategy and leadership positions as an independent contractor and with firms such as aligne, inc., and Anexinet. Dan holds a B.A. in economics from Lafayette College.

Outside of work Dan enjoys playing golf, following college sports and grilling on the Big Green Egg.

Brandon Vickery is Vice President, Project Development. He is responsible for managing Finite Carbon’s Development Team to deploy the necessary resources in support of Finite Carbon’s Forest Carbon Offset Project Development portfolios. He works closely with a team of highly skilled analysts to support all phases of project development from project origination to project offset issuance. Brandon has over 20 years of forestry related experience including forest conservation, investment, modeling, and analytics.

Before joining Finite Carbon, Brandon worked with Mason, Bruce and Girard providing analytical support for forest management planning projects, harvest scheduling, timberland valuations, inventory, and appraisal analysis. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

When not working, Brandon spends most of his free time with his wife and two children enjoying Portland, Oregon and exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Sarah Wescott is Finite Carbon’s Director of Methodologies. She is responsible for managing methodology development, adaptation, and evaluation for voluntary and compliance markets. She works closely with our various teams to ensure our projects enroll in high-integrity programs that provide the best fit for landowners and credit buyers.

Before joining Finite Carbon, Sarah served as a Senior Program Manager at the Climate Action Reserve, where she led the forest, grassland, and soil carbon teams. Her role also included frequent work with industrial and agricultural projects, as well as management of the Reserve’s participation in the California compliance offset program. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California.

Sarah spends most of her free time knitting, lifting weights, and chasing her cats away from her keyboard.
