How We Work With Small Landowners

Leveraging our patented remote sensing technology and software expertise, Finite Carbon developed CORE Carbon—an advanced, digital mapping platform that streamlines carbon project development for landowners with 40-5,000 acres. Our digital mapping tool provides real-time estimates of how much revenue a landowner can potentially earn, facilitates landowner enrollment in the carbon market, and allows for ongoing site management.

Small, non-industrial landowners have been largely excluded from the financial rewards of forest carbon projects on their forestlands because of the high costs and technical complexities of monitoring and verifying them. These lands represent roughly 39 percent of all forestlands in the U.S.1 By aggregating smaller forests into carbon projects, CORE Carbon offers small, non-industrial landowners a solution that compensates them for the positive climate impact of their lands and drives substantial carbon reductions and removals.

Finite Carbon helped develop ACR’s Improved Forest Management on Small Non-Industrial Private Forestlands (SNIPF) methodology, which defines how small, non-industrial forest landowners can participate in carbon markets. In 2022, the SNIPF methodology received ACR’s Innovation Award.
