Windrock Land Company

A cyclist wearing a helmet navigates the dirt trail of Windrock Land through an autumn forest, kicking up dust as colorful leaves flutter in the foreground. Another cyclist can be seen further back on the trail.

overview

The Windrock Land Company owns and manages 73,000 acres of maturing Appalachian forest in eastern Tennessee.  Founded in 1872 as the Coal Creek Mining and Manufacturing Company, Windrock has pivoted its land management focus to eco-tourism and Forest Stewardship Council certified forest management. Forest carbon project revenue enables Windrock to maintain timber harvest levels well below annual growth to encourage the recovery, health, and value of the forest, while increasing carbon stored compared to regional common practice.
