PotlatchDeltic Moro Big Pine

Two people in orange vests conduct a survey near Big Pine, using measuring tools and taking notes in the forested area.

overview

One of several Finite Carbon projects harboring significant populations of the federally endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker (RCW). PotlatchDeltic actively manages their Moro Big Pine Wildlife Management Area with harvesting and prescribed fire to promote the growth of healthy forest conditions and habitat for a variety of rare plants and animals including RCW. Over the past two decades, this targeted management—along with translocation efforts to boost genetic diversity—has led to a dramatic increase in the RCW population within Moro Big Pine. The RCW population has increased from 24 adult birds and 9 potential breeding groups to 87 adults and 30 potential breeding groups.
