Finite Carbon hires Ian Lodge as Forest Carbon Analyst

Finite Carbon is excited to welcome Ian Lodge as a Forest Carbon Analyst based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. His experience spans sustainable forest management, conservation, and forest carbon accounting, most recently supporting greenhouse gas accounting and climate mitigation for the Province of New Brunswick. He previously served as Technical Lead of Environmental Services at Remsoft and as President of the Nashwaak Watershed Association.

Before forestry, Ian worked in hospitality. Conversations about foraging and local food systems sparked his interest in conservation, which led him back to school for environmental science and ultimately to forestry.

That sense of purpose still guides his work today.

To Ian, forest carbon is more than technical work. It’s a tool for creating new revenue for landowners and helping Indigenous communities and others access the benefits of responsible forest management.

He thrives on the complexity of the work.

“I’m a puzzle person. I like tackling big, complex problems,” he says. That mindset fuels his passion for forest modeling and data, working through detailed numbers, measurements, and long-term planning grounded in science.

Outside of work, Ian is a hands-on builder and woodworker who enjoys creating practical, well-crafted pieces, from furniture to projects for his home and garden. He’s also a seasoned banjo player, with roots in bluegrass bands though these days, family life has taken center stage. When he isn’t building or making music, you’ll likely find him outdoors, hiking, fishing, or heading north for salmon trips in the Gaspé Peninsula and northern New Brunswick.

Finite is a natural next step in the direction he’s been heading.

“I’ve been working toward this for a long time,” he says. “Finite has the exact kinds of projects I’ve been wanting to work on.”  He’s stepping into work he’s passionate about – sustainable forest stewardship – in an industry that works alongside communities to broaden access to these opportunities.

We’re proud to welcome another forestry expert who shares our mission: protect and restore forests, promote biodiversity, and mitigate climate change for an enduring legacy.

Welcome to the team, Ian!
