Finite Carbon Adds Duke Nicholas School Graduate, Eric Downing, as Associate Director

July 17, 2012

Finite Carbon Corporation, the forest carbon development company that provides a single-source solution for creating and monetizing carbon offsets, announced today that Eric Downing has joined the company as Associate Director for Project Development.

Eric joins Finite Carbon’s team of four professional foresters after graduating from Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment and working for the Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative. Eric led the team responsible for evaluating the 7,000-acre Duke School Forest for forest carbon project feasibility under the Climate Action Reserve and American Carbon Registry forest offset standards and designed a new course on forest carbon for Duke’s Executive Environmental Management program.

“Finite Carbon’s rapidly growing pipeline of forest carbon offset projects required that we expand our project development team. We are proud to have an unmatched in house team of forest carbon experts who can work seamlessly with our landowners’ forest managers and welcome Eric to help us keep up with demand. He has the right combination of project modeling and on the ground management experience and will significantly increase our project development capacity,” said Finite Carbon president Sean Carney.

Eric is a Society of American Foresters Candidate Certified Forester, and was previously a soil research technician with the US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station and operations and management assistant on the Duke School Forest where he managed timber sales, conducted forest inventories, and prepared documentation for annual Forest Stewardship Council certification audits.

Eric graduated from Duke with a Master of Forestry and Master of Environmental Management and a BA in Environmental Studies from Vassar College.
