Finite Carbon Director of Project Development, Tim McAbee presented at the 2012 Esri Forestry GIS Conference in Redlands, CA on May 14. Hosted by the
Esri Forestry Group, the conference was designed for forest managers and decisions makers, as well as GIS users and specialists involved with forest management and forestry operations.
Tim’s presentation, entitled “Forest Carbon Opportunities Part II: the Finite Carbon Sifting Extension!” provided attendees with practical and actionable information on how industrial and institutional forest landowners can best use geospatial information to evaluate forest carbon opportunities in current markets. The talk focused on California’s forthcoming greenhouse gas market that includes forest carbon offsets and how Finite Carbon uses GIS technology to work with forest owners to investigate the potential to increase total timberland returns.
“Our strategy with clients is to optimize management for timber as well as carbon revenue,” said Tim McAbee. “Using geospatial information and Finite Carbon’s deep forest carbon project experience, we have been able to help numerous landowners maintain and increase their baseline timber return while positioning identified properties to capture upside potential from compliance offset sales.” The ability of landowners to integrate forest carbon into their management and investment strategies is timely in the current climate of continued challenging markets for conventional wood products.
